The Lagos State Police Command has again reaffirmed that rebelling cultism is essential to fighting and curbing crimes and criminality in Lagos state, while reassuring Lagosians that suspected criminals will have no breathing space in the state.
The Commissioner of Police Lagos State, CP Hakeem Odumosu while confirming the arrest of seven (7) suspected members of the *Eiye Confraternity* operating at the Agura area of Ikorodu, Lagos state by police operatives attached to Imota Division on Saturday, November 28, 2020 around 2:00pm made the assertion on Sunday, November 29, 2020 in his Ikeja office while reviewing, with the staff officers and sectional heads at the command Headquarters, the strategies being put in place by the command to curb crimes and criminality, particularly cultism and hooliganism in the State.
The suspected cultists according to the police chief had gone to attack the officials of a Vigilante Group popularly called Agbekoya in the area to revenge the recent arrest of one of their group members by the Vigilante group causing various degrees of injury on the Vigilante officials using machetes and guns.
Suspected cultists arrested are Abolaji Arbayo, 21, Josiah Offem, 37, Oluwapelumi Oyeyinka, 25, Lamidi Taofeeq, 41, the cultist driver, Ahmed Shittu,48, Rabiu Ganiyu, 25, and Zainab Nurudeen, a 20 year old and the only female amongst the cultist who is in charge of sourcing for guns that they use when going for operation. Others who were in possession of their dangerous weapons, fled the scene on sighting the police.
Items recovered from them includes; machetes and some charms, one green paragon bus with Reg No LAGOS APP 600 XA which the suspects confessed, is their operational vehicle.
In lieu of the above, the Commissioner of Police has directed that the case be transferred to the State CID Panti for proper investigation and apprehend the fleeing suspects.
CP Odumosu who echoed that he will keep sending signals to other cultists and men of the underworld that, Lagos State is not for them to hibernate with the aim of carrying out their illegal acts, has also ordered the Department of Operations to reduce his directives on anti-crime strategies of the command into a signal and circulate same to all police stations and formations in the command for strict compliance with immediate effect.
