Four (4) members of a kidnap syndicate have been arrested by operatives of Ogun state police command for kidnapping a thirteen (13) years-old girl in Onipanu area of Ado-Odo Ota local government area of the state.
The four (4) suspects, 21-years-old John Nelson, 29-tears-old Adeleke Ayotunde, 20-years-old Adekunle Basit and 20-years-old Abiodun Fagbemi were arrested following a complaint lodged at Onipanu divisional headquarters, Ogun state by one Adejunwon Odunowo, who reported that, her thirteen (13)-years-old daughter, Susan Odunowo, was sent on an errand by her mother at about 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 6, 2021, but didn’t return home.
Adejuwon stated further that, he later received an anonymous phone call, demanding for the sum of fice- hundred thousand naira (#500,000) as ransome, if he ever wants to see his daughter again.
Upon the report, the Dpo Onipanu division, CSP Bamidele Job, detailed his crack detectives to embark on intelligence and technical based investigation, in order to unravel those behind the devilish act.
On Saturday, May 8, 2021, the detectives successfully traced one of the suspects to Cele area of Ota, Ogun state where he was arrested.
Confirming the arrest, the state police command image maker, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi stated that the first suspect’s arrest led to the apprehension of two (2) other members of the gang at a factory in same Ota.
“It was then discovered that the victim was being kept in Adekunle Basit’s room. The deectives swiftly moved in there, and rescued the victim unhurt,” DSP Oyeyemi narrated.
The leader of the gang, Abbey Fagbemi, who went into hiding immediately he heard of the arrest of his fellow gang members, was later arrested on Monday, May10, 2021 around 7:30am in same Ota area of Ogun state.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Edward Awolowo Ajogun, who expressed satisfaction about the quick response of his men to the incident, has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspects to anti kidnapping section of the state criminal investigation and intelligence department, for a discreet investigation and prosecution.
He also appealed to members of the public, to adhere strictly to various security advice given by the command in order not to fall victim of kidnap syndicates and stated further thay the victim has since been reunited with her family.
