A 28-years-old man, Opeyemi Adeola Ganiyu, was on Monday, May 3, 2021 arrested by operatives of Ogun State Police Command for killing his mother in law, Abosede Oyewole.
The man was arrested following a report made at Atan Ota Divisional Headquarters by one Odunayo Mathew, who reported that the suspect, who is married to the daughter of the deceased, is fond of beating his wife on slight provocation.
Fasnews gathered that on day of incidence, the 28-years-old man, as usual, beat up his wife and inflicted injuries on her, which was the reason why Abosede, the suspect’s mother-in-law (now deceased) went to meet him in order to warn him to desist from beating her daughter.
On sighting the deceased in his house, the suspect descended heavily on her, and gave her the beating of her life before stabbing her on her ribs with a knife.
The deceased was rushed to an hospital for treatment, but gave up the ghost in the process.
Having heard that his in-law is dead, the man took to his heels but DPO Atan Ota Division, CSP Abolade Oladigbolu detailed his detectives to go after him and bring him to justice.
The detectives intelligence investigation eventually led them to his hideout in Ikorodu, Lagos state, where he was apprehended.
Preliminary investigation revealed that, the suspect is a member of a notorious cult group in the area. He was also one of those who led hoodlums to burn down Atan Ota Police Division during the ENDSARS protest, and killed the Divisional Crime Officer on the 21st of October 2020.
According to the state image maker, DSPAbimbola Oyeyemi, the case has been transferred to the homicide section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence department for a thorough and discreet investigation on the orders of CP Ogun, Edward Ajogun.
